My Very Personal Note:
Back in 2011, I penned "Honouring Heirlooms" in my Cinderella Column for the Canadian Quilter magazine (Canadian Quilter Association).
I had incorporated my husband's grandmother Mary's embroidered, beaded Ukrainian blouse to surround her husband (Peter Scraba) portrait quilt.
By far my most challenging project ever. It was an emotionally difficult project then and reminds me 'why' today. I had no idea this precious soul suffered so much and why his intense spirit spoke to me often during the 3 months it took to complete his portrait. I shed tears then and today as I share this personal family history with you.
I also visited Romania in 1999 and began to help us understand what their people had endured and now repeating as we speak. #ukrainestrong
Bless Ukraine. Cindy Scraba
