Canadian Quilters' Association/Assoc. Canadienne de la Courtepointe Challenge entry for 2009 Quilt Canada sponsored by Trend-Tex Fabrics held in Saskatchewan. 3-D characters: Farmer Teddy, Flora-the-Cow with her pink unibrow & the CarrotTopRootlets. Challenge fabrics: stripes, florals, polka dots, clouds, solids, manipulated with numerous techniques as shadow effects, trapunto, vintage crochet picket fence, embroidered foliage and banner trailing from airplane advertising "Roots" theme over Teddy's densely quilted homestead. (Did you spot the tractor towing a featherweight?)

Created as a class project with quilt artist/instructor, Coreen Zerr of Nanaimo, B.C. This strip pieced technique incorporates a variety of African fabrics, batiks and cottons. Thread play and free motion quilting includes black metallic, variegated cotton and embroidery threads. The sunrise is based upon a photograph taken on Vancouver Island by her friend. Coincidentally, resembles the view from my own window.

The Westshore Quilters' Guild "Symphony of Quilts" 2009 show challenge entry incorporating Michael Miller Fairy Frost fabrics. My vintage style Jazz Poster reveals Theodore's professional side: framed 3-D portrait of Sax player attired in pintuck shirt, custom tux, machine embroidered mustache and dancing Humbugs, trapunto, double needle stitched accents, dense quilting, metallics and variegated threads were orchestrated to make this quilt sing. (Did you spot the secret jewellery item?)
