Perhaps a better name would be Journal or News. I chose B.L.O.G.—who knew that “word” would become traditional? The good news is “Quilting” will always be universally recognized no matter what language we translate. We’ll still be searching for creative ways to express quilt art and new locations to shop for essentials. We desire inspirational instructors, exciting fabrics and especially quality THREADS—the glue! Our support network of quilters through satellite groups, guilds, and communities is vibrant (especially here, on Vancouver Island, BC). Join me as I share how-to articles on Threads and techniques, quilting events, profiles on fabric artists, natural things of beauty and  general interest to curious and resourceful stitchers! ...Cindy Scraba (Cinderella)

Comox Valley Schoolhouse Quilters Guild Show Highlights

Posted by cindy on Monday, May 23rd, 2011

The community of Cumberland BC on Vancouver Island had many treats for everyone who attended their "Empire Days" May long weekend celebrations. The Schoolhouse Quilters Guild hosted a very successful quilt show at the Cultural Center, which included their popular cupcake tea.
Members shared their diverse talents and projects in abundance.
The Mystery Challenge (above) was presented by member, Margaret Yells and co-convenor for the show.
A close up of one of the challenge blocks from Marilyn Schick's "Street Lights to Kolob"--above large quilt (R). Voted as 1 of the top 3 winners in Viewer's Choice in the large quilt category. Texture and Thread at work and play--well done!
One of my favorite Christmas quilts, like ever! Evidently, visitors felt the same and voted "Christmas on the Farm" as #1. And yes, Virginia you can sign up for a 'future' class and purchase fabrics from its maker, Marie Trimmer of the Cumberland Quilt Shop, who is also a long arm operator and was co-convenor of this event.
A close up of Marie's quilting above--yes, she will quilt your tops if you ask nicely.
Another award winning quilt by Joan Boyle--"Thistle Pods" in the large quilt category. (Judy Neimeyer pattern)
Florence Labrecque's "Feeding by the Shore" was a worthy winner in the wall hanging category.
Both Marie Trimmer's wall hangings took 1st and 2nd in the wall hanging category: top left quilt "Beaufort Range" and top right quilt "Theory of Relativity" (A Judy Farrow workshop.)

* AND late breaking news: 2 of Marie's quilts were also recently accepted into Mancuso's World Quilt Competition for 2011. Congrats, Marie!
Cindy's Threadworks was pleased to be invited to participate as a vendor along with Kismet's Quilt Shop of Port Alberni and Eileen Neil--The famous Bead Lady from Qualicum Beach. Being a 'small town' girl myself, I feel Cumberland is a special place to visit and shop whenever you travel to Vancouver Island.
All the volunteers and committees did a super job in all aspects of show production. I've never been so spoiled as a merchant! No doubt, their strong teamwork contributed to the level of success for this event. Thank you Schoolhouse Quilters!
