Welcome to Cinderella's Blog
Perhaps a better name would be Journal or News. I chose B.L.O.G.—who knew that “word” would become traditional? The good news is “Quilting” will always be universally recognized no matter what language we translate. We’ll still be searching for creative ways to express quilt art and new locations to shop for essentials. We desire inspirational instructors, exciting fabrics and especially quality THREADS—the glue! Our support network of quilters through satellite groups, guilds, and communities is vibrant (especially here, on Vancouver Island, BC). Join me as I share how-to articles on Threads and techniques, quilting events, profiles on fabric artists, natural things of beauty and general interest to curious and resourceful stitchers! ...Cindy Scraba (Cinderella)

Superior Prewound Bobbins for Perfect Piping Easy--Really! Part 1
Posted by cindy on Sunday, January 9th, 2011

At a recent workshop I taught, some students requested a Blog entry on how I added a perfect piped edge to my textured bag handles. Note: you now have this luxury of matching a prewound bobbin Thread color to your top Thread for eg.--Bottom Line™ #623 silver and #603 red with SoFine™ #413 scarlet red and #408 silver, which have compatible dye colors to blend within fabrics...watch!

Assemble your "mise en place"
Materials:
- 2 piping fabric strips of 1"X22" fabric with cotton string,
- 2 stabilizer strips of 1.5"X22" Soft & Stable™
- 2 handles fabric strips of 4"X22"

SoFine™ #413 scarlet red was stitched down encasing the cotton string to create the piping. Note: an edged foot guides the piping securely.
I've changed my top Thread to SoFine™ #408 silver for a more neutral blend with the multi-colored stripes using Bottom Line #623 silver in the bobbin. Reasons? SoFine™ is a 50wt 3-ply good strength for all purpose sewing while the prewound bobbin is conveniently wound for me and available in silver!
Back to the scarlet red SoFine™ top Thread with the silver Bottom Line™ in the bobbin while stitching through to the lining underside. SoFine is a #50/3ply Thread providing strength and purpose here. The entire project, including this 16(!) layer task, was accomplished using the Superior "magic needle" Topstitch titanium coated #90/14.
I have 2 more classes scheduled for this F.U.N. Textured Bag at Serge & Sew in Nanaimo, February 10th and March 15th if you wish to join us--click to register.
Bag Pattern & Texture Magic™ can also be purchased in your Shopping Cart.
More completed bag photos are posted in my Gallery.
