Perhaps a better name would be Journal or News. I chose B.L.O.G.—who knew that “word” would become traditional? The good news is “Quilting” will always be universally recognized no matter what language we translate. We’ll still be searching for creative ways to express quilt art and new locations to shop for essentials. We desire inspirational instructors, exciting fabrics and especially quality THREADS—the glue! Our support network of quilters through satellite groups, guilds, and communities is vibrant (especially here, on Vancouver Island, BC). Join me as I share how-to articles on Threads and techniques, quilting events, profiles on fabric artists, natural things of beauty and  general interest to curious and resourceful stitchers! ...Cindy Scraba (Cinderella)

The Nanaimo Conference Centre Ballrooms were transformed into one giant playground for fibre queens, princesses and princes, Sept. 10 and 11th. If you are a knitter, weaver, spinner, sewer, quilter, textile or fibre artist, this was "The" place to come and play!

Delicious colors and textures--the medium to every creative fibre project.

I fantasized "accidentally on purpose" falling onto this 'plucious' bed of nature's bounty irresistible to the touch.

There's always surprises at shows. My "neighbor" was Wendy Dunnet, a friend from the past. We first met in Victoria while taking the 2-week VI Motorcycle Safety course to earn our Class "5*6" licenses. Eventually, I sold my candy apple red 650cc Suzuki to purchase my Gammill Optimum longarm quilting machine. Good trade?

Wendy is best known as "The Button Lady" from Pender Island who has been churning out handmade, ceramic cheery buttons since the mid-nineties.

This became the perfect opportunity to choose a one-of-a-kind embellishment for my newest Textured bag sample for Cinderella's Classes. These Kaffe Fassett/ Brandon Mably fabrics deserved an organic touch.
(Click on Demos/Schedule/Events for class locations.)

As the Texture Magic™ Rep for Vancouver Island, I was also demonstrating the features of this versatile and F.U.N. Texture medium, which provides the dimension and personality in the center panel above. Watch for a future Blog entry on this project.

Besides the huge Vendors' Market, another highlight of the VIFA Showcase was the Silent Auction, Fashion Show, and Banquet, which followed the event. Above are 2 fibre divas/volunteers, (L) Marie Sullivan (Periwinkle Creations) and (R) Alison Kermack (fellow Satellite Star), who originally suggested Cindy's Threadworks become involved.

The Vancouver Island Fibre Arts Showcase was entirely produced by the Society with volunteers of the capable kind. Kudos to Jeanette Roberts of "Hummingbird Fibres" for steering the committees. Show production is never easy, especially when it's the first year, which no one would have suspected given the caliber of this event. And judging by the enthusiastic crowds, I predict an encore. Congrats! www.vancouverislandfibrearts.com
