Welcome to Cinderella's Blog
Perhaps a better name would be Journal or News. I chose B.L.O.G.—who knew that “word” would become traditional? The good news is “Quilting” will always be universally recognized no matter what language we translate. We’ll still be searching for creative ways to express quilt art and new locations to shop for essentials. We desire inspirational instructors, exciting fabrics and especially quality THREADS—the glue! Our support network of quilters through satellite groups, guilds, and communities is vibrant (especially here, on Vancouver Island, BC). Join me as I share how-to articles on Threads and techniques, quilting events, profiles on fabric artists, natural things of beauty and general interest to curious and resourceful stitchers! ...Cindy Scraba (Cinderella)

Nanaimo BC Quilt Show Highlights
Posted by cindy on Monday, June 21st, 2010

Vancouver Island is still celebrating after showcasing the diverse talents of its quilters recently at the Nanaimo Quilters' Guild, Material Magic Show--a magical exhibition of fiber, fabric and fabulous quilting. The spotlights were 'on' and cameras were 'clicking'!

A highlight for the "Nanaimo Material Magic Show" was their popular Postcard Challenge, which honored significant events, memories and personal projects of their creators. They all looked like winners! Congratulations to ALL participants and notably:
- Lorie Rogers, Challenge Chair, for this very entertaining program and great display.
- Kathy Calder of Lantzville for winning 1st Place with her "25th Anniversary" theme card (below) and was the recipient of Cindy's Threadworks Gift Pack.

- Val Ursulak from Nanaimo, "Best Handwork" category
- Penelope Woodwark from Duncan, "Best Story" category
- Congratulations to Marieke Raabe, a Parksville Quilters' Guild Member and one of Sassie's Satellite Group, was the recipient of one of the main door prizes sponsored by Cindy's Threadworks.
- Congratulations to Dawn Danay, member of Westshore Quilters's Guild, winner of my draw for a $25 On-Line Gift Certificate.
Another highlight of this event was the team of volunteers and various show committees from the Nanaimo's Quilters' Guild. Below are Show Co-Chairs: Lillian Charron (L) and Carol Bailey, longarm extraordinaire of www.harvestquilts.com/

The fabulous Merchant Mall was managed by the "A Team"--Chaired by Immediate Past Co-President, Avril Valentine (below R) along with Marg Bradley and Eimear Keane, Im. Past Co-President. The assistance of a few good men and hubbies was also a bonus!

Also President, Barbara Root (above L)--how could we forget her? Congratulations to this Master Quilter and member of The Dimensional Divas, local Chapter of The Appliqué Society, whose masterpiece earned 4(!) major awards: CQA Rosette, Viewer's Choice, Past President's Award, 1st Bed Quilt Handquilted. One of my favorite details are the hand appliquéd bugs along-for-the-ride within each block. Barb, we applaud you and "Thank You" for your humorous leadership throughout your reign as President of the Nanaimo Quilters' Guild this past year. Rather BIG shoes to fill :-)!

Stay tuned for a few more great pics and (candid moments) when I've obtained permission from those respective artists. Watch for a 2nd Blog entry on Challenges when I catch up!
