Quite simply, I don’t recall a time not being attracted to texture. Even our pets possess an endearing texture. Living on 5 acres surrounded by a natural rainforest, here in the Pacific Northwest, it has ever-changing seasonal textures, colors, flora and fauna—a spiritual place where black bears are a blessing!
As a child, I secretly stashed bits of lace and trim to re-fashion into doll clothes. I taught myself to sew, crochet and embroider (a little) by watching my mother and admiring her mother’s needlework pieces. My love affair for all-things-textured lives on within my collections of vintage crocheted items, embroidered linens, semi-precious-to-me stones, and antique glassware for their awe inspiring beauty and design elements.
My ultimate “OMG” experience in creating textures occurred when I began to use Superior Threads on my Gammill Longarm quilting machine and within my art quilts. I adored the Egyptian-grown cotton King Tut™ cones for their glorious color gradations along with The Bottom Line™ bobbin threads. I was amazed at the quality and their flawless performance on my domestic machine as well. For my quiltart, I incorporated Superior’s Glitter™, Metallics™, Rainbows™ and MonoPoly™. Thus, the addiction began and my quest for texture journey continues. The birth of Texture Magic is another remarkable product. Have you tried it yet?
